No, it wasn't, but Daniel makes an excellent point. He still remembers how Duncan looked in black tie on their first "date." 58 years old, tall, broad shoulders, Kyle's lucky he didn't swoon right there in the restaurant.
"Vibe?" He just misses tripping over his own feet from that question. "I... really don't know, to be honest. I mean," Kyle directs Daniel's attention to his current wardrobe: khakis and a pastel button-down. "these're my date clothes here, so..."
Daniel eyes his outfit and manages not to wince. Learning how to dress should be a mandatory course for all men when they turn eighteen. "All right, then, what's the event? Do you know anything about what you'll be doing?"
Then this is Kyle's lucky day. He's eighteen and ready to learn.
"Oh god, uh, I don't think I'll be doing anything during it, but um there setting up tents. Have you seen 'em? They're pretty big! It looks like an exhibition." There's a pause. Kyle realizes that's not all that descriptive, so he continues. "A sex exhibition sorta thing."
His freckled face turns a little redder.
"I just wanna look a little less, uh, straight," Kyle concedes. Judging from Daniel's confident aesthetic he will understand.
"Right, yes, I've seen those." He's definitely going to be going over there and checking them out. "Sounds like it'll be educational."
He tries not to openly laugh at the poor kid, he really does. He doesn't think it would help his confidence and he wants to make him feel good. "I know what you mean. Everyone thinks the fashion sense comes naturally to us, but they don't realize it just comes from not wanting to look like them."
He winks at Kyle and turns to start going through the racks. "I've got a few ideas. We can do alterations if something you like doesn't fit just right, don't worry."
It's a good opportunity for a lot of things and Daniel's happy to help Kyle take advantage of them.
"First hit's free, kid." Daniel laughs and picks out a gold jacket. "What about something like this? The colour's bright and it'll grab attention, but the cut's a classic so it's not too off-the-wall."

"You do tailoring, too? Wow, okay. Jeez, I may need to sell a kidney here..."
